Vandals disrobe Hitler, steal Teletubbies from wax museum

This may be a first: Teletubbies and Hitler in the same headline...
DUBLIN (AP) — Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Franklin D. Roosevelt are missing their clothes and Fred Flintstone and the Teletubbies are just plain missing after a raid on wax figures owned by Ireland's National Wax Museum.

"Whoever did it was looking for uniforms, because most of our uniforms were stolen," Murray said, adding, "It's not going to stop the museum reopening. It will just delay us."

Nazi Germany’s “War on Terror”: The Warnings of History

Germany – February 27, 1933: It started when the government… received reports of an imminent terrorist attack. A foreign ideologue had launched feeble attacks on a few famous buildings… When an aide brought him word that the nation's most prestigious building was ablaze, he verified it was the terrorist who had struck and then rushed to the scene and called a press conference. "You are now witnessing the beginning of a great epoch in history," he proclaimed, standing in front of the burned-out building, surrounded by national media. "This fire," he said, his voice trembling with emotion, "is the beginning." He used the occasion - "a sign from God," he called it - to declare an all-out war on terrorism and its ideological sponsors, a people, he said, who traced their origins to the Middle East and found motivation for their evil deeds in their religion. – Thom Hartmann, March 16, 2003

Nazis adopt Oregon highway

Angry Marion County residents are complaining about a decision to allow the American Nazi Party to participate in the "Adopt-a-Highway" cleanup program, but county officials defended their action Thursday saying they had no choice.

...a U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this month that prevented Missouri from barring the Klan from participating in that state's Adopt-A-Highway program due to free-speech rights.

"Our hands are pretty much tied from a legal standpoint," explained Marion County Commissioner Patti Milne. "This has been very difficult, but the bottom line is they are entitled to participate."

...note below the words "American Nazi Party" that read "only picks up white trash."

Mein Kampf ban 'should end in Germany'

By Harry de Quetteville
Last Updated: 2:59am BST 19/07/2007

A leading historian has called for Hitler's notorious treatise Mein Kampf to be published again in Germany to expose the nation to the incoherent ramblings of the Nazi dictator.

Known for its cocktail of pro-Aryan propaganda and anti-Semitism, the book has been effectively banned since 1945, with Bavarian state authorities, which hold the copyright, refusing demands to print on the grounds that it would be an affront to victims of the Nazis.

But with copyright due to expire in 2015, Horst Möller has said that the time has come to print a scholarly edition to pre-empt and debunk sensational neo-Nazis versions.

"As long as a carefully annotated edition of Mein Kampf doesn't exist, the simple-minded speculations about the book's contents won't end," said Mr Möller.

"The book is badly written, it's put together from all kinds of different sources and consists of many incendiary tirades. An academic edition could break the peculiar myth which surrounds Mein Kampf."

The idea of a reprint has been swiftly criticised by Jewish groups. Wolfgang Benz, who heads the centre for Anti-Semitism Research in Berlin, described it as "absurd". Salomon Korn, of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said it would be an insult to Holocaust survivors.

But Mr Möller said: "It's not justifiable to prohibit this document out of fear that it might have a negative, symbolic effect."

Hitler Watches fetch $700,000

The watches, which were discovered in estates in New Jersey, turned into amazing finds for Wellington auctioneers John Farkas and Connie Rose of Antiques and Estates Auctioneers.
Each was sold via auction in Geneva, Switzerland, where the watch market is especially strong.
The sale of the $70,000 watch was finalized about 10 days ago. It had been presented by Hitler to his physician, Dr. Theodor Morell, as Allied fighters were marching toward Germany after D-Day.
The watch includes Hitler’s signature and German words that loosely translate to “July 22, 1944, with most cordial wishes.”
The $621,691 watch, which sold in 2006 and was the auction firm’s largest sale ever, had been presented by Hitler to Hermann Goering, the most powerful man in the Third Reich aside from Hitler. It was Goering who was responsible for stripping Jews of their civil rights, and his zeal led to the creation of the first concentration camps.

Secrets of Nazi camp brothels emerge decades on

By Alexandra Hudson

KAMPEN, Netherlands (Reuters) - For decades no one wanted to remember the concentration camp "special blocks" where the Nazis forced female inmates to entertain their male peers.

Nazi commander Heinrich Himmler had ordered the creation of camp brothels in 1941. His logic was chilling -- male prisoners would work harder if offered the incentive of sex, and if only a few had this privilege it would crush solidarity.

As the horrors of Hitler's death camps emerged, the brothels swiftly became taboo. The mainly German women who had staffed them were too scarred by the experience to speak of it, whereas the male inmates who used them remained silent in shame.

Now an exhibition in Ravensbrueck women's concentration camp north of Berlin aims to shed light on the brothels and expose the Nazis' sinister attempt to manipulate prisoners' sexuality.

Germany blasts Cruise/Hitler flick, then pledges $6.5 million to get it made.

The German Federal Film Fund (DFFF) has approved subsidies worth 4.8 million euros ($6.5 million) for the film "Valkyrie." While that may anger some in Germany, the main reason for resistance from some politicians and others is that US actor Tom Cruise is expected to portray Count Claus von Stauffenberg, who was executed after a failed attempt to kill Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler on July 20, 1944. "United Artists offers us a great chance to bring this historically relevant story to a worldwide audience," Carl Woebcken, the CEO of Studio Babelsberg said in a press release, adding that studio officials considered Cruise the "ideal choice" for the movie's leading role.
To be fair, $6.5 million will probably just barely cover the catering.

Over a Million Bush-Hitler Comparisons Made Online

Hatred of George Bush has taken over the Internet. According to Google, the terms "Bush" and "Hitler" appear on the same webpage in about 1.64 million instances. Explicit comparisons are also made. The exact phrase "Bush is Hitler" appears in almost 40,000 webpages.

Hitler targeted the Jewish population in Europe for extermination and many comparison have been made to war in Iraq as a genocide of Iraqis. According to IraqBodyCount.org, there is around 70,000 Iraqi casualties thus far in the war. Yet there have been estimations of a factor of 3 more than this. This is far from the 9-11 million predicted death toll count due to the Holocaust.

Comparisons to Hitler is unfathomable but still show the level of hate that a large number of Internet users have. 70% of Americans are against the war in Iraq and this has been the top issue for the 2008 election.
